Students from two academic programs joined hands in creating a dazzling batik and tie-dye textile collection. Their creations were exhibited at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT).
Surajit Kaenpim, lecturer from the fashion design and textile art program, said that the exhibition wrapped up the year-long student project, which brought students from the programs together. One group of students comprised of third-year students who took the course on batik and tie-dye textile design, while the other was made up of fourth-year students majoring in Thai arts.

Student Collaboration Culminates in a Fashion Exhibition

“During the year, students learned the techniques of textile production and fashion design. So, I proposed that they created a collection under the concept ‘Summer in Winner 2015’ and ‘Atmosphere for the Revolution’, which required that they work in groups and create a total of 25 costumes as well as decorative textiles,” said Surajit.

Noppadol Raub-ru, third-year student from the fashion design and textile art said that his collection was inspired by volcanoes, which symbolize nature’s destructive forces and man’s disregard for nature. His final piece featured tie-dyed Thai cotton fabric, sewn into a stylish party dress. He spent two weeks on this dress and estimated its value to be 1,500 baht.
From the Thai arts program, Nittaya Saunpho said that her piece, entitled “Ngam” (beauty), was made using the batik painting technique on Childnese silk. “I was inspired by the female body contours, using several layers and line painting techniques to create an illusion of movement. The patterns featured floral and free designs,” she said.
The students were free to use their creativity and skills to create any pattern or design that they wished. As a result, each final piece was unique it itself, which added more value to the piece.
