In the countryside, 80% of each community are rice farmers. After harvesting the rice, farmers always separate the crop into two parts; first is for own-consumption within the family, the second is for sale. The first element of this process is necessary to peel the rice which is expensive for rice factories. In order to save costs, they need to bring in large quantities rather than small. However, if this is kept too long, the rice will become unusuable.
From this problem,Mr.Thapakorn Cen-Jarean (Kai), Mr.Dusakorn Lamaikornburi (Boy),and Mr.Nipol Pikul (Ni),Three students(2nd-year in continuing bachelor programme),Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi,The faculty of Technical Education,The Department of Industrial Education,invented a small brown rice milling machine by using human power for farmers’community by having Assistant Professor Thawatchai Kumdang as an advisor.
As a representative, “Boy” explained that this machine was designed for milling brown rice by using human power .It is believed that this will help Thai farmers to cut costs in transportations and rice milling service fees.However,there is a limit in milling process due to it is designed for home economics only(4-5 days of consumption), not in a large quantity.Besides, they can manage by themselves.
This machine size is 50*150*150 cms.In terms of production, we tried to use materials which can be found everywhere because it is convenient to repair its parts when becomes out of order as followings;
- Ractangle steel shape sizes 50.8 mm.
- Toothed wheels transmission
- Feed Rollers
- Backet contains raw rice
- Peeling machine
- Convey belt for feed rollers
- Convey belt adjustment ,this is important to support the proper friction
- Feed roller adjustment
- Flowing rice system and feeder adjustments ,before milling brown rice
- Conveyer pipe for brown rice and its peels
Working process;
One person bike a bicycle as normal speed ,the power will link to the operating system automatically.
Milling process uses three feed rollers crush to each other
Eight fans to take peels out ,which size 8 inches of each.
From the operating testing,found that production rate is at 97.22% by spinning at normal speed 300 rounds per minute and set the distance between brown rice and feed rollers is at 0.25 mm.This is suitable for home economics ,apart from gaining rice ,also helps people doing their exercise. “Absolutely Great!!” ,The advisor recommended, and the production cost is 17,000 Baht approximately.
