05/08/2021Chiang Khan is a small peaceful town in Loei province in Northeast Thailand, located on the bank of the Mekong River with Laos on the other side of the river. The group of Thais in Chiang Khan have still preserved their culture and identity, especially their sustainability of life-style which is hard to find these days in Thailand. Chiang Khan is an old town and a very popular destination for Thai tourists. The town is famous for its simple wooden houses adapted to attract foreign tourists. Chaing Khong Road runs parallel to the main road that branch off from the main trunk line with 24 sub-streets divided into upper and lower streets. One street is filled with rows of teakwood buildings, small restaurants, bars, shops and guesthouses and the other street is Chai Khong Rd. which is the name of a 2-kilometer stretch of road alongside the Mekong River. This street is for the visitors to enjoy riding bicycle around the town, taking photos of beautiful scenery, and visiting all attractions. Fortunately, even if there are some locals who attempt to turn their teakwood buildings into shops, café, coffee house, or even homestay, municipality stops the plan in order to conserve culture and the environment including the famous, honest Thai smile and to recognize the value and importance of traditional ways of Chiang Khan ‘s lifestyle
