RMUTT student design toy for developing children’s concentration.

“The toy design for children 3-6 years old. They will learn to control themselves and create better concentration by playing the toy. Also, they would use their skills to observe, solve problems and being patient. The toy could make children have good emotional and meditation. When a child has a good concentration, it will affect the child’s memory and being a quality child.”  “Punim” Miss Athithan Pranoi, 4th year student in Major of Industrial Product Design, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), the owner of creative toy for children 3-6 years old.

She told the reason to build the toy related to children and brain development is because her experience about her younger brother, 6 years old boy. He was very addicted to a smartphone that causes his short concentration. He could not do anything for a long time. The brain is really important, if the child has long concentration, the brain would work well. She mentioned about her last 2 years ago, she had brain surgery. She said she understand how if feel about the affection of the brain’s malfunctions on herself. This inspired her to work on the toy project. She believes it will help all Thai children that have problem with brain. According to Ministry of Public Health, she found there is 1 million Thai children with ADHD. The main cause of ADHD is by parenting that encourages children with ADHD to get worse. Raising children with various media which is unnatural for children that they must play appropriately with their age.               Guidelines for the development and promotion of activities for children to develop their concentration is an activity that allows children to participate in playing. May not play for a very long time because children in this age are very action. The activities that help to practice meditation are drawing. Using art as a part of training might not be applied for all children because not all of them have drawing basis. The child will stay still for about 15 minutes. That activity should be something that children can do, not difficult and interesting during the short time. This will help children develop concentration and emotional, not be aggressive and being patient to wait.

The ideal of the toy designing is tree with branches branching out side and the selection of colors that are suitable for the perception of children aged 3-6 years. With the difficulty level of playing to allow children to be able to concentrate about 15 -20 minutes. In conducting research, consisted of primary data and secondary data

The samples in this research are kindergarten students 1-3 from Piyawattanasat School. There are 50 boys, 50 girls, 2 specialists about children, 2 designers’ experts and 1 Materials and production experts. Sampling tools for research are observation, interview, questionnaire, Satisfaction assessment form and Performance Assessment Form Results of research Usage, Beauty and Safety. The result of research are satisfied, group of expects, kindergarten’s teacher and parents are satisfied at a high level about design and child development. Overall, most of the opinions are consistent at a high level. Research efficiency shown that children play toys in good time duration and suitable for children. Feedback on efficiency is at a high level.

“The toys develop children concentrate in the age 3 – 6 years old to help children learn self-control, reduce aggressive behavior and being patient. The toys require interesting play styles, various playing features to allow children thinking. The shapes are more diverse with natural shapes and cartoon shape to increase efficiency in creating good concentration for the child.” Miss Athithan said.
