The very first in Thailand – to meet needs of modern business.
Associate Professor Dr. Dechrit Manithum, Head of Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Faculty of Industrial Education Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) revealed that the 6-axis welding robot was a collaborative research work between Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi and TDS Technology Company Limited (Thailand). Together with Mr. Wirote Ritthibun, a graduate student of Faculty of Industrial Education, RMUTT and Mr. Winyu Lertkham, Manager of TDS, Research and Technological Development and Robotics Innovations, Dr. Dechrit had extended their cooperative work to practical use by focusing on transferring technology to the industry as well as strengthening industry performance and establishing new advanced industries by promoting advanced technology and robotics innovation to support the growth of new industries in the country.
Through the research, a 6-axis articulated robot was developed so as to respond to the needs of welding operations with different types of robot’s operation movements. The signal connection components used for operating the robot was TwinCAT Ethernet Protocol IEC61131-3 with TwinCAT 3 C ++ language software. In addition, control system equation used for analyzing structure of the 6-axis robot was written in the form of matrix in order to control coordinate transformation of vector components and compare mathematical modeling of the robot arm with MATLAB Simulink. It was considered to be the first 6-axis welding robot in Thailand in which the program could be created, repaired and modified at any time and thus this innovative work could be as part of developing the manufacturing industry sector in Thailand.
Mr Winyu said that the manufacturing industries, currently, including those that were located in Innovation Economic Corridor in the Eastern Region or EECi, have been trying to increase their competition capacity. Moreover, automated production system had also been developed to increase their efficiency while SME manufacturing businesses could access to adequate supply at a competitive price.
“In addition to automation technology, industrial robots are considered as part of automated production system that is, one of the methods of increasing production capability. At present, industrial manufacturers are interested in replacing traditional automation system with automated industrial robot in production lines and thus, the 6-axis welding robot could respond to the needs of industrial sector.”
