02/09/2011Researching to handle earthquake
Dr. Veerasak Laongjan, the head of the Geotechnical Engineering Subject from the Department of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), has been given the scholarship by the Office of the National Research Council of Thailand and the Thailand Research Fund to research on the “Strengthening Cement Column” project to increase resistance on earthquake loads. The method is to insert hardness-property materials in its deep-line axis. This study can apply to building construction, soil improvement for road, and jetty. In addition, Dr. Veerasak also collaboratively works with Dr. Ming Jing from the Department of Structural engineering, RMUTT, to study about Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) which will be applied to bricks in the purposes of strengthening building construction such as pagodas, temples and walls. This would not be negatively affecting to obstruct visitors to see their beauty; it is different from some countries that use the older reinforced polymer and it locks beauty of the places and also so expensive.
