Associate Professor Dr. Sommai Pivsa-at, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), revealed that THE Awards Asia 2024 announced the finalists for various categories on their website https://theawardsasia.com/2024. These awards honor universities or higher education institutions in Asia that have demonstrated outstanding and leading projects in each field. There are ten main categories in the competition, and RMUTT participated in this event. It was revealed that RMUTT ranked among the top 8 in the ‘Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year’ category from THE Awards Asia 2024. RMUTT’s submission involved a project focused on developing, improving, and promoting students’ digital skills, particularly in computer and information technology usage. This is part of the university’s ongoing policy to push and promote these skills continuously, aligning with their mission to produce and develop a workforce with academic, professional abilities, creativity, and lifelong learning under the IT competence development plan for undergraduate students.
This recognition is another source of pride for RMUTT as they are ranked among the top 8 in Asia for educational quality. RMUTT is committed to continually providing high-quality, inclusive, and equitable education, supporting lifelong learning opportunities for students. Associate Professor Dr. Kritchayan Phumikittipich, Vice President of RMUTT, added that the improvement and promotion of students’ digital skills in computer and information technology or the IC3 DIGITAL LITERACY CERTIFICATE involve assessing skills using internationally recognized standards that certify knowledge and abilities in hardware, software, office applications, internet, and basic networks. These standards are used to assess and certify students’ competencies in computer and tool usage, meeting internationally accepted standards.RMUTT has a mandatory basic computer course for all students, and this project was fully implemented in 2015. The Office of Academic Resources and Information Technology, an internal entity of RMUTT, developed learning models to improve students’ digital skills more effectively. This learning model increased the pass rate from 53.74% to 86.78%, enabling quicker certification, more time for students to learn other subjects or work part-time for extra income. Meanwhile, it garnered acceptance from employers and led to salary increases of 1,000-2,000 baht. The university also reduced costs related to hiring instructors and electricity by up to 86%. Furthermore, the development of these digital skills is a critical strategy supporting and promoting students on the global stage in digital knowledge competitions, allowing them to achieve world champion status. It also plays a significant role in lifelong learning through the credit and experience transfer system or credit bank.
