21/09/2016Prefabricated House Made of Steel for Small Families
The Landy Design Contest is but one of many opportunities for students to express their creativity and show their full potential. The theme for this year’s Landy Design Contest was “prefabricated houses made of steel for small families.”
Pattra Maneeratanaporn, Director of Marketing and Product Design at Landy Home (Thailand) Limited said that “The trend for house structures this year is steel as it is easily constructed and uses less labor in construction, making prefabricated houses made of steel increasingly in demand. However, an interesting point to note is that there are not many details about using steel as a house structure in most educational systems, so this contest was considered a way to provide a new generation of architects with knowledge and hone their skills.”
Students from RMUTT’s Faculty of Architecture, Bachelor of Architectural Technology received first prize for having excellent thinking for their work “Len Len House” or “Len Len.” The team consisted of 5 students: Ms. Supicha Winichpatiyut, Ms. Saruda Promdit, and Mr. Thanapoom Tongprasert, third year students, and Mr. Jirasak Juromanee, and Mr. Patarapong Poogmor, first year students.
The team said their inspiration for designing the house came from thinking of the house as a toy that is able to change its form as the user pleases. Each unit can be placed any way like a piece of a puzzle. What makes “Len Len” special is its gable roof, which can be separated from the house. For long-term use, the gable roof can be recycled and a new roof can be replaced.
Additionally, Ms. Aranya Wongchawalit, a fourth year student from the Faculty of Architecture at Naresuan University received second prize. She said that her inspiration for designing the “Plus House” came from Japanese houses, which reflected a Minimal style, combined with the concept of stacked containers. With the committees’ advice, she was able to design in detail, the electricity and sanitary systems within the house. Mr. Jatupon Kaewkumma, a fourth year student from the Faculty of Architecture at Naresuan University received third prize for “The Cube.” His inspiration for the design came from connecting numerous boxes together, Each box had different sizes to reflect its function in each section of the house.
