RMUTT’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Organizes Exhibition as a Remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
Asst. Prof. Ariya Suangkawatin, Dean of RMUTT’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts said that as His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the beloved King of Thai people, the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts have decided to express themselves through art by organizing an exhibition displaying artwork by professors and students in Faculty. The exhibition displayed royal portraits of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Activities included drawing royal portraits of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej by students in the Department of Thai Arts, and woodcut, bas relief, and shirt screening (Free – please bring your own shirt). “Each artwork is a symbol of expression for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, even though His Majesty’s teachings will forever be remembered by Thai people” said Asst. Prof. Ariya Suangkawatin.
Prof. Thotsaporn Sutham, Program Director of RMUTT’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts said there are 89 artworks created by professors and students in the Department of Visual Arts, Sculpture, Graphic Arts, Thai Arts, and Art Design and Technology on display in this exhibition, in which various techniques and styles were used. To exemplify, the sculpture that resembled His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was created using stucco and cast molding techniques. Another artwork of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, used woodcut, in which every piece was created with love, loyalty, and intent, to show their respect to, remembrance of, and sincere gratitude towards His Majesty. Besides creating artwork, students also learned skills in planning and organizing exhibitions as well as problem-solving skills.
Moreover, Asst. Prof. Komsan Kumsingha, permanent professor in RMUTT’s Department of Sculpture, whom created a sculpture that resembled His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, recalled that he spent one week to create the sculpture by using stucco and cast molding techniques, keeping in mind His Majesty’s principles of self-sufficiency. The sculpture resembled His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej smiling although His Majesty has passed, in which the people of Thailand will forever appreciate what His Majesty has done for the country. “I will be very proud of being able to contribute to creating this sculpture for the rest of my life; I have and will continue to live based on His Majesty’s principles of self-sufficiency” said Asst. Prof. Komsan Kumsingha.
Additionally, Ms. Chollada (Pim) Uthaiphibul and Ms. Athichaya (Gam) Arayasiri, students from the Department of Graphic Arts, said that they were proud to be a part of and contribute to this exhibition. Every graphic artwork and woodcut created was possible because we all collaborated with each other. Everyone wanted to show their respect to, remembrance of, and sincere gratitude towards His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, resulting in different kinds of artwork, depending on each individual’s creativity.
