Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sommai Pivsa-art, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Liu Liyun, Deputy Secretary of the Work Committee from the Department of Education of Sichuan Province, the People’s Republic of China, on June 12, 2023. Mr. Liu, accompanied by representatives from 29 universities and colleges, expressed keen interest in exploring academic collaboration opportunities with RMUTT.
In 2023, RMUTT is partnering with Sichuan Province for the “Jingshi Institute” project, which is part of the “One Belt One Road” initiative. The objective of this collaboration is to facilitate the exchange of students and staff through a joint program on Electric Vehicle Technology (EV). Following the signing of the MOU, Sichuan Vocational and Technical College will transport EV laboratory equipment to RMUTT and its staff will conduct innovative classes for the students. The most promising students will then be chosen to pursue their diplomas in Sichuan Province for a minimum of 18 months, before returning to RMUTT for their graduation.
The prosperous Sichuan Province is located in the southwestern region of China, between the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers. Its impressive gross product of 5.67 trillion yuan (equivalent to 829.9 billion U.S. dollars) ranks it sixth in the nation. Moreover, the region boasts a large populace, abundant resources, and a notable focus on education and science. Sichuan has earned a reputation as a major educational hub within China, with over 23,000 schools of various types and levels, including 363 secondary schools with an enrollment of 908,000 students, 81 colleges with 951,200 students, and 134 higher education institutions with 2.0515 million full-time students, all contributing to its rich history of development.
Sichuan is currently promoting the internationalization of education through its “One Belt One Road” education action plan. With a commitment to “four-way expansion, global opening,” Sichuan is increasing cooperation and encouraging more frequent exchanges. To this end, the province has established Sichuan Provincial Government Scholarships for Foreign Students, which rewards outstanding foreign students with the opportunity to study and engage in scientific research at Sichuan universities. The scholarship program offers a Ph.D. scholarship of 30,000 yuan per person per year, a master’s scholarship of 25,000 yuan per person per year, an undergraduate scholarship of 20,000 yuan per person per year, a junior college scholarship of 15,000 yuan, and advanced students of Chinese study scholarship of 10,000 yuan.
The province of Sichuan is committed to fostering cooperative relationships with relevant partnerships and promoting exchange and interaction among educators and learners. Sichuan can facilitate joint training and credit transfer programs that recognize the remarkable achievements of RMUTT students, allowing them to study in Sichuan universities or pursue further studies. Additionally, Sichuan universities can send exceptional teachers to Thailand for exchange and teaching, as per the requirements of RMUTT. Moreover, the Sichuan government can support RMUTT and Sichuan institutions in their efforts to establish industry-university linkages and carry out comprehensive exchanges and collaborations for integrated development.
