RMUTT studying on spider web in the family of Nephila
An USA army has collaborated with a leading company who was the first company in the world initiating spinning spider web and it was found that the web was sturdier. Accordingly, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), was interested in studying about its properties and features by compiling more data on the spiders in the family of Nephila in the southern region of Thailand by both pulling the web from its body and collecting from the existing web. From the test on its sturdiness, toughness, flexibility and tensile strength, the researchers found that the web were appropriate to use in the textile industry; but, there are some problems relating to the capability to produce the spider web because there is lack of capability to cultivate the spider. However, the results of the research are useful for further development of fiber to compare equally to spider web.
