Associate Professor Dr. Poonsuk Hinkanon, Dean of Faculty of Nursing, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), revealed that Nurses Network on Tobacco Control of Thailand, the Nurses’ Association of Thailand had been organizing a social media contest activity under the concept of “Innovative media creation for smoke-free Thai community” campaign hosted by Nursing Student Club in order to publicize and raise awareness of students, college students and general public on the non-smoking community campaign.
A team of nursing students, Faculty of Nursing (RMUTT), moreover, had submitted their video production into the contest by the title name of “Bad Friend”, a video of 2.24 minutes long with anti-smoking Thai rap lyrics explaining the danger of cigarette smoking endangering oneself and others and at the end of video, the slogan, “All lives are safe with no smoking” was also presented.
The result showed that the RMUTT student team of Thanyaburi received the first prize from all 36 teams participating in the competition. It is an encouragement and reminder for everyone to work together to create a better society. It also pointed out the importance of being a society away from cigarettes through creative media, which includes Asst. Prof. Dr. Patcharaphan Chaisang and Ajarn Ratchaporn Sridet from the Faculty of Nursing. Having attracted 36 teams across the nation, the results of the competition were announced and the first prize winner was RMUTT team representatives who won their first prize. The competition was organized with the aim of raising awareness and creating a more collaborative and inclusive society. It also pointed out the importance of being cigarette-free society engaging with creative media. The RMUTT team members participating in the competition included Asst. Prof. Dr. Patcharaphan Chaisang and Ajarn Ratchaporn Sridet from the Faculty of Nursing, Ms. Supachida Thongthong or “Aey” and Ms. Chollada Laemthong or “Knot”, 2nd year students of the Faculty of Nursing, Mr. Sirasit Phongpruek-ngam or “Aomsarb” from the Faculty of Law, and a 2nd year student of the Faculty of Architecture and Mr. Paramesh Luan Suanor “Fai”, a 2nd year student of the Faculty of Industrial Education. Ms. Supachida revealed that she and Knot and all members of the had been collaborating to create a video media called “Bad Friend “and she also explained every single process for making the video clip including dialogue writing, lyric composition, editing and filming so as to create the master piece. “Knot” also added that having a chance to work collaboratively, students and their advisors from the Faculty of Nursing, RMUTT were able to create an online media that could easily be accessible at your fingertips both for the current and future audience. “The length of video clip was over 2 minutes; thus, we tried our best to insert meaningful story on how to protect and prevent first-hand and second-smokers from health effects and catch the targeted audience attention and make them feel as part of this activity” he added with pride.
Hopefully, having organized this social media contest activity under the concept of “Innovative media creation for smoke-free Thai community” campaign hosted by Nursing Student Club would raise the awareness of non-smokers and smokers and create a better quality of life.
