A Moral Field Trip to Start Off the New Academic Year
02/02/2015A royal-bestowed ceremony to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch, Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara Suvaddhana Mahathera, was held at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara Rajavaravihara on 30 September 2014. The ceremony preceded a month-long commemoration, from 3 to 24 October.
On the morning of 3 October, Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-Ocha and the cabinet members participated in the alms-giving ceremony for 150 Buddhist monks, which took place on Phra Sumera Road, in front of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara Rajavaravihara. The day also marked the 101th birthday anniversary of His Holiness.
The memorial service included chanting by Buddhist monks, praying ceremony, and flower decoration ceremony, which was open to the public. Sermon books and CDs were distributed, and an exhibition was also held to display the activities to commemorate His Holiness’ death for the past year.
Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi presented a 3-meter funeral wreath made from 100,101 flower pedals, weighing 101kg. Since the day that His Holiness passed away a year ago, more than 3 million people from more than 2,500 private and state institutions have paid respect to His Holiness’ body.
