Assoc. Prof. Dr. Numyoot Songthanapitak, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi and President of the Association of Rajamangala University Presidents, reveals that the nine Rajamangala Universities agree to adjust the academic year to the same standard used in state universities nationwide.
This means that the first semester will start from mid-August and end in mid-December, while the second semester will start from mid-January and end in mid-May. This new standard will be applied to the 2014 academic year, for the benefit of the students. Meanwhile, schools that fall under the jurisdiction of Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) may or may not adjust the academic year to match with the same standard.
Dr. Numyoot also addresses the concern about whether or not Rajamangala Universities will continue to admit students with high vocational certificates into its undergraduate program. “All nine Rajamangala Universities will continue to admit students who graduate with high vocational certificates to continue studying for two more years in the undergraduate level,” he says. “We will continue to do so even though the universities under the jurisdiction of Office of Vocational Education Commission will open their own undergraduate level programs in the near future,” he adds.
This is to serve the needs of students who wish to transfer from the vocational education system into the university system. “If we don’t admit these students, then they may miss the chance to continue their education in the university system,” Dr. Numyoot says.
