22/07/2016Professor in Thai Traditional Medicine College at RMUTT Invents Aromatic Wax Formula for Massaging to Remove Poison and Relieve Aches
Assist. Prof. Dr. Kornwinwich Boonpisoothnun from the Thai Traditional Medicine College at RMUTT has invented an aromatic wax formula using traditional herbs to remove poison and relieve aches.
Dr. Kornwinwich wanted to improve the poison removing formula, which resulted in inventing a new product is not available in the market yet. The aromatics from the wax were derived from natural extracts from traditional Thai herbs selected from the 11th stanza of a story, used to treat patients with arthritis, whom would apply it on the body’s joints to reduce aches, inflammation, and swelling. By conducting laboratory research, Dr. Kornwinwich modified the formula to create the aromatic wax. By stimulating high antioxidant activity, the extract can greatly reduce the synthesis of biochemical substances associated with inflammation such as COX2, PGE2 and NO. It can stimulate cell growth and does not have toxic effects on skin cells. Thus, the Thai Traditional Medicine College has used the formula to produce traditional medicine products in the form of sprays and gels under the APOX brand, available for purchase through the Academic and Production Services Center for Aesthetic and Health (COE) at RMUTT’s Thai Traditional Medicine College.
The aromatic wax contains characteristics similar to wax, but transforms into a liquid form, much like oil, once it is rubbed and massaged onto the body. It is suitable for massaging to prevent excessive use of massage oils. The wax has a favorable texture and is more effective in absorbing into the skin than its oil counterpart. It has an aromatic smell of natural oil, helps soothe the muscles, relieve aches and pains, is suitable for all skin types, and is ideal for clinics and spas. The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) is accountable for establishing a marketing strategy and plan for the aromatic wax, which has been successfully patented, but is still in the negotiation stage in order to export the product internationally to private companies.
Moreover, the aromatic wax also received an outstanding award in this year’s 6th Innovation Awards, organized by RMUTT’s Institute of Research and Development. Those that are interested in the product may purchase it at the Academic and Production Services Center for Aesthetic and Health (COE) at RMUTT’s Thai Traditional Medicine College or by calling 02-592-1900 or 088-266-7266.
