Newly Appointed University President Reveals Strategies for Future Development (Part 3)

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prasert Pinpathomrat, newly appointed Rector of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, revealed future directions for the university, based on the visions set by its late president, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Numyoot Songthanapitak. This is the last of a three-part series.

“The university has plans to upgrade its facilities in three areas. Firstly, each classroom will be well equipped with a projector, sound system, and other necessary teaching materials. Secondly, every class will have access to a basic laboratory. Thirdly, the environment outside the classroom will facilitate group learning. We will provide tables and chairs that allow for group work and meetings,” Dr. Prasert said.

The biggest ambition, he added, is to see all nine Rajamangala Universities of Technology reach higher than number three in the science and technology university ranking systems. In addition, the university aims toward one of the top 1,500 world universities as well as to be included into the research publication qualification of the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA).

In terms of the realization of the ASEAN Community in 2015, Dr. Prasert expressed his appreciation for the works of the late president, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Numyoot Songthanapitak, who arranged for the MoU signing with more than 120 academic and research institutions around the world. “These MoUs allow us to form both academic and research collaborations with overseas institutions, such as joint-research, students exchange programs, visiting lecturers program, and credited internship-exchange program for the students,” Dr. Prasert said.

The plan for international collaborations extend to the academic offering, which will include adding 10 international programs all the way to the doctorate level in the future. “I would like to accomplish three tasks, as far as faculty and student development goes. Firstly, the faculty members must have a better understanding of the industrial production process. Secondly, faculty research should answer the needs of the industry in terms of application and commercialization. Thirdly, the quality of our graduates must meet the demand of the ASEAN jobs market,” he said.
