Prof. Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art, the President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), received the Fellowship Award 2021 for Leadership in Enterprise in Education from Dr. Maurice Dimmock of the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC). Furthermore, RMUTT was also awarded the Student Support, Enterprise Award, and Inclusivity Award for submitting their educational standards assessment work to ASIC. The award ceremony was held in the Mangala Ubol conference room, 1st floor, Chaloem Phra Kiat building for the 48th Anniversary of RMUTT.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art expressed his pride and was pleased that ASIC recognized and honored the university with these awards. The achievements represent the collective effort of everyone, highlighting the dedication of all faculty members who collaborated to create benefits for the community. Most of the work involves applying the university’s knowledge to help the community. Another part is related to student development, shaping students to be competent, responsible individuals with soft skills—vital assets for Thailand. The awards serve as a testament to the success stemming from the faculty’s efforts, and importantly, the students’ collaboration and eagerness. As a public university, it is essential to create valuable contributions for the country and to demonstrate RMUTT’s level not only nationally but also as an international recognition.”
For the Student Support Award, submissions of work since 2020 involved proposing projects on student assistance, providing support especially during the COVID-19 period, taking care of students in aspects of well-being, distributing survival bags, finding vaccines, offering psychological counseling, and providing free meals for students residing in dormitories, among others. For the Enterprise Award, the proposal involved research and development of bamboo and banana products and transferring knowledge to the community for creating jobs and income, improving community life. Lastly, the Inclusivity Award is for proposing work on equality, attending to the needs of both disabled students and low-income students by supporting educational scholarships, morale clinics, job searching during studies, health insurance, and creating opportunities for international exchange programs. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boonluea Earpipattanapong, Vice Director of the Office of Academic Services and Information Technology, received the special Outstanding Women in Education Award and the Outstanding Contribution to International Education Award.
The president of the Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi also stated that in submitting work for the ASIC standard assessment, the indicator corresponded with the university’s identity as a technological institution. The assessment process was not solely based on written documents; there was an online assessment committee and onsite visits to interview faculty and students. The international level assessment revealed the university’s areas of deficiency, providing directions for further development and quality enhancement.
