Seeing the importance of local plants that are enormous and easy to find together with the demand of value adding of products inspired Dr. Montip Lorsuriyon, Dr. Somsak Ittisophoppolkul, and Anin Meemon, researchers from Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) help invent and create the innovation in coating papers with banana tissues by plastic films successfully.
The researchers revealed that banana-pulp papers are biodegradable so this is the way of adding the value of agricultural waste by using biodegradable plastic films coating with laminate to enhance the strength to be able to fight with humidity or the peeling of paper tissues. Besides, the banana leaf is very easy to paint patterns, and the pattern painting and enhance the strength with teak leaves to enhance the beauty and the strength more.
The researchers have explained about the paper-forming process that they use sieve no. 30 by forming papers to have 10 x 12 inches. And when we boil the tissue at the different time by determining the proportion of Sodium Hydroxide 9% per 1 kg, fixed proportion at 7 liters founding that the mechanical proportion of banana-pulp papers is the strongest with 2.5 hours and the resistant power per tension equals to 15.89 Mpa, the resistant power to laceration equals to 185.42 mN, and the pressure-through resistance equals to 3.76 kgf/cm3.
When the banana-pulp papers taken into the coating process, the resistance per power increases to 79.14 Mpa, laceration resistance increases to 913.76 mN, and pressure –through resistance increases to 18.57 kgf/cm3.
It can be seen that the banana-pulp papers will be increased in strength up to 5 times including the humid resistance, and they become finer so that they can be printed on. Moreover, they are easy to clean so they can be used commercially well, not only for water-resistant book cover but also can be applied with other kind of work such as interior works or packaging.
