03/05/2016Disabled Student in Hearing Problem Never Give Up “Nack” Won Bronze Medal in World Stage
“No matter how tired I am; I will never give up. My father and mother always given me an encouragement.” The motto of Ms. Anusa Duangkerd, third year student from faculty of Homes Economics Technology minoring in Creative and Invention (RMUTT), disabled student in hearing problem won bronze medal in creative craft from leftover materials in international disabled skill works world competition. This competition has been organized for the 9th times in Bordeaux city, France. It has been organized for competing in 49 major skills, 665 disable person from 33 countries have been attended this competition.
Nak shared that in the past she as a representative has been competed in regional 5’s competition, Nakhon Ratchasima province. It was a 7th national disabled skill works competition competing in creative craft from leftover materials. From 12 selected competitors nationwide including her, she won the 1st runner-up position. From this consequence, RMUTT has been supported her to attend the 9th international disabled skill works world competition. She has been prepared and trained in university for 3 months with Professor Jurapon Srimuangmhai. She was her mentor and trainer, and also professor in Creative and Invention major. Regarding to the topic in this world competition, she has to use 50% of wine stoppers in her creative craft. Furthermore, it must be able to apply with functional use concept while able to keep wine as well. The competition has been competed for two days, three and a half hour for the first day and two and a half hour for second day respectively. In this major topic, there were 10 competitors from 7 countries consisted of Thailand, Finland, Slovakia, Macao, Hong Kong, and Philippine.
Her creative craft have been called “Tao Ahoon” referred as “Grapevine or grape creeper”. The leftover materials she has been used for consisted of bamboo scrap, paper from newspaper, wire frame from old clothes hanger, and fruit plastic bottle. Her creative craft has been created by cutting wine stoppers into thin pieces, framing wire frame from old clothes hanger into grapevine shape, and sticking thin pieces of wine stoppers with glue on wire frame until it looked like real grapevine (perceiving with eyes won’t be able to acknowledge that it made from wine stopper). After that, fruit plastic bottle were crafted into owl shape used for keeping wine stoppers. The reason why she decided to craft owl shape was the meaning of owl amulet means intelligence. Her main problem during the competition was that the material of wine stopper was stronger than the one she used to practice in Thailand. While competing in the competition, she used her techniques from practicing in the university and also thought about her father and her mother in Thailand. Once she knew that she has been won the bronze medal position, she was so delightful. She thanks and gave credits to university that support her to compete in this world competition in France. She also thanks to professor who well-trained her before competition.
She has a hearing problem when she was 4 years old. During that time, there was an insect flied into her ears and her mother didn’t know the right ways to first aids her. From that time, she is unable to hear anymore unless it is so loud she will hear a little. “I’m so proud that I got the reward and also delight that I have a chance to compete in the competitions. There was a stage for me to show off my capabilities. In further, I have a chance to learn new experience from other expertise competitors and also have a chance to apply my knowledge that I have been learnt in the competition. At this moment, there is only one subject left then I will graduate my bachelor degree. I wish to continue for master degree if I have a chance. I’m the eldest daughter in the family so I would like to achieve highest degrees as possible. I would like to use my knowledge to perform a career in flower shop which is not only my dream but also my family’s dream as well. Once I have a hearing problem, I never ever blame on my fortune. Either I can become normal again from curing or not, I will accept in who I am as long as we are determinate and aim for purpose in life.” Said by Nak.
