The Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) Reveal Four Ways to Enhance Thai Students’ Capabilities and Propose Companies That Provide Scholarships and Research Grants
Prof. Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, President of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Chairman of The Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) general meeting said that CUPT is accelerating the process of expanding its networks with all educational institutions in Thailand according to its Plus Plus policy, by collaborating with Rajabhat University, Rajamangala University of Technology, and other private universities to establish a framework, policies, and plans to develop the quality of Thai graduates. The objective is to equip Thai graduates with knowledge, capabilities, and expertise according to the needs of the private sector and leading companies. On February 15th, Prof. Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, whom served as Chairman of CUPT, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ruangdej Wongla, President of Uttaradit Rajabhat University (URU), whom served as President of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prasert Pinprathomrat, RMUTT President, whom served as Vice President of Rajamangala University of Technology’s executive committee, Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit, President of Siam University, whom served as an Adviser for the Mayor of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Thailand (APHEIT), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saowanee Thhairungroj, President of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wirat Lertpaitoonphan, Vice President of Sripatum University (SPU) have met to discuss issues with Mr. Kalin Sarasin, Chairman of The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand. From this meeting, it is known that The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand currently has programs to support higher education institutions in numerous ways, especially cooperation between education institutions and The Thai Chamber of Commerce in each province in providing students with internships and research grants, in line with the needs and development directions in specific provinces, which is very beneficial for students and the country as a whole.
In addition, The Council of University Presidents of Thailand and the Association (CUPT) has proposed four ways to enhance Thai students’ capabilities to be able to compete in the professional world. The first way is to expand partnerships to provide students with internship opportunities with The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand network. The second way is for companies to support in providing scholarships, and research grants to every university. Sponsors will qualify for a 200% tax deduction according to the Thai law. Thirdly, private companies can participate in developing an up-to-date curriculum according to the national strategy. The fourth way to enhance Thai students’ capabilities is to provide equal opportunity employment for all students.
