Lecturer of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakorn, Assistant Professor Pramote Weeranukul, Mr. Itti Palitsiri, Lecturer of Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi, and Acting Captain Dr. Kittipong Suweero, Lecturer of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi jointly conducted a research on Coconut Coir Ceiling Board Product with Thermal Insulation Property binding with 60% prevulcanized natural rubber latex. The aim of the research was to help local community reduce coconut coir waste and transform them into valuable material that can generate extra income for the community. Assistant Professor Pramote Weeranukul said that after testing for the physical properties of its fibers and coir, the findings revealed that it was a naturally-produced material without toxic compounds, having microorganism resistance properties, acid corrosion resistance properties, low weight, and low temperature conductivity. The initial stage of coconut coir ceiling board production was conducted by separating suitable fiber size and coir size before mixing them to Gypsum plaster, Silicate sodium, natural latex and water.

The prepared materials were mixed into the drum of mixer then poured the mixture into the stationary block molder with 60×60 cm. The concrete mix was spreaded evenly across the mould. After 28 days of curing in specified temperature, product was subsequently tested according to Bureau Veritas Certification (Thailand), an Accredited Certification Bodies for Thai Industrial Standards. The properties testing of ceiling board mixed with coconut coir followed the TIS 219-2009 standard (gypsum plasterboard) including: breaking load, nail pull resistance, deflection, water absorption, density, and thermal conductivity coefficient. From the results, when compared to other common types of gypsum ceiling board, this developed T-Bar coconut coir ceiling board had passed all the standardized requirements enabling them to be used as good thermal insulation ceiling board products with good strength and vary in sizes.

For those interested in the product, please contact Pramote Weeranukul at 06-1894-6111 and

Dr. Kittipong Suweero at 08-1199-4705.
