The concept was created with the purpose of developing and renovating building structures or 4 Thailand transportation terminals in four regions including second Chiang Rai province transportation terminal (Northern region), International airport in Phuket province and transportation terminal (Southern and Western region), transportation terminal (Western region), train terminal in Khon Kaen province (North Eastern region) and lastly, Tha Rue Sriracha port in Chonburi province (Central and Northern region).
Third-year-university students in the Faculty of Architecture at RMUTT University joined and competed in the competition and both teams emphatically won their first prizes in their categories of the contest. The first team so called, ‘SN(A)CK’ comprised of Mr. Channarong Intharachai or ‘Earth’, Mr. Atipapak Treetiraroj or ‘Boss’, Mr. Supakit Chuichart or ‘Jui’ and Mr. Naiyachon Poomthong or ‘Not’ was nominated as the winning team of Transportation Design Award in the category of Southern and West region, Phuket International Airport. Likewise, ‘The Shea Butter team’ including Ms. Piyatida Taechaamornkul or ‘Eye’, Ms. Rungtawan Moongnoi or ‘Not’ and Ms. Nawiya Karaket, or ‘Bee Bee’ also won the transportation design of the train terminal in Khon Kaen province (North Eastern region).
“This activity-based competition held by OTP is considered to be an integration of classroom based knowledge and real life applications that could help create useful experience for the university contestants to fulfil their future career needs including collaborative working, working techniques, and working with other professionals in the field. More importantly, this competition campaign also promotes and supports the representation of design ideas with creativity that bring benefits to the society”, mentioned Asst. Prof. Varakorn.
‘Earth’ as the representative of the ‘SN(A)CK’ team reveals about their constructive design ideas to improve or renovate Phuket International Airport by their concept of ‘Inclusive’ meaning the design is made for everyone, no social categories should be made among the people. For example, the warning block for the visual disabled should not be in existent due to the fact that this could cause the feeling of social separation between the disabled and the society. This design idea, therefore, aims to create good relationship among people when using the building and its area to fulfil their goal and additionally, this airport design also goes along with country’s rules and regulations. Concerning design colors, blue and yellow as international colors are selected as their colors could have been very eye-catching and informative. For the renovation of the building, the durable synthetic rubber flooring will be installed, seating area for the disabled will be added, restoration of wheelchair parking area, ramps, floorings and office will be done.” Hopefully, the design will suit all the people for their safety and comfort and the very same time it goes by the rules and regulations set by the government.
As for the other team, “The Shea Butter”, led by “Eye” explained that the design idea has been inspired by the concept of ‘Equality of us” meaning the area of bus terminal is designed for all including the young, the old, men and women and the disabled. There is no special area for anyone, everyone can have their own rights of use. The main entrance and Drop-Off and Pick-Up Point area will be improved as well as the ticket area, passenger waiting area and the train station platform will also be restored. Nonetheless, our team will be assuring you that our design will definitely be applicable and meeting the universal standard and abiding the laws. We hope that what we have been doing would be helping and comforting everyone including those who use wheel chairs, who are visually or hearing disabled, senior citizens, pregnant women, as well as mother and their children.
“This incredible and worthwhile-experience activity-based competition will definitely help fulfil the young talented architects’ enthusiasm before entering their work life, concluded Asst. Prof. Varakorn,
