For who loves lotuses or wonders about this kind of aquatic plants, please come to visit RMUTT Lotuses Museum at Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. It will be the best, if you can visit on August 6-8, 2010 because the university is going to hold the activities for lotus lovers named “Watching the Bloomed Lotuses Eating the Food Made of lotuses”
Klong Hok or Klong six, Thanyaburi is not far from the center of Bangkok city. Driving a car starting from Praram 9 Bridge on the Karnjanapisake road heading to Rangsit-Nakornnayok Road and turning left to straight right away to the university, it takes approximately 42 kilometers and not over than 40 minutes.
In case of coming from provinces of central part of Thailand such as Ayutthaya, Samutsakorn or Choburi province, it is spent only short time to arrive at the university too.
In this activity, there will be many sub-activities such as Flower Basket Contest to Bless the Queen of Thailand, Packaging of Lotuses Contest, Lotuses in Different Types Contest, Singing in the Garden Contest, Cooking Food in the Garden Contest and Fashion consisting of Lotuses Contest. Especially for the Lotuses Contest in Different Types, there are more than 50 species of the new lotuses made up by the owners which they do not display in any places before.
From these activities hosted by RMUTT, it makes everyone know more about the lotuses which is not only beautiful being above the river, but it also create several useful for many purposes such as eating or displaying. Furthermore, RMUTT also offers many activities such as RMUTT Lotus Photo Contest and Architectural Lotus Drawing Contest which is already completed before the activity start but the works of the candidates after contest will be shown in these period in order that the watchers will be able to understand how much beautiful of the lotuses have bloomed in the drawers and photographers’ eyes too.
Talking about the drawing contest, the competitors have just looked into the different details which can be separated into 2 sides of them. Firstly, some competitors consider on the detail only in term of academic and beauty of color, meanwhile the teacher who always get closed to the lotuses such as Asst. Prof. Purin Akkarakultron, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, has mentions that the lotuses are the most beautiful only on the first day and the other days are like normal that is giving the normal feeling.
Asst. Prof. Purin also gives the technique of the observation for the lotuses for seeing the first bloom that “the observers just look at the receptacle of the lotuses. Near that time, the insect will come in the flower, together with bring the anther from another flowers to mix the flowers”
“On the second day, lotus pollen starting getting closed and the anther initial to face the carpel, but unfortunately, the lotus flowers have cut for other purposes.”
