11/03/2024RMUTT Thanyaburi hosts a grand event, reaffirms holding the trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for another term, uniting the strength of the 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology through friendship and sports.
On February 12, 2024, Ms. Supamas Issaraphakdee, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, presided over the opening ceremony of the 38th Rajamangala University of Technology National Games, “Thanyaburi Games: Uniting Rajamangala through Friendship and Sports,” competing for the trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, held from February 11 – 17, 2024. Associate Professor Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, reported the objectives of the event, along with the university presidents, administrators, and faculty members of all 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology, welcoming participants at the central stadium of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. Associate Professor Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art stated that the Thanyaburi Games, a collaborative effort of all 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology, feature 12 sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, athletics, beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton, pétanque, sepak takraw, and board games, showcasing both physical and mental prowess. The event promotes planning skills, collaboration, responsibility, respect for competition rules, developing sportsmanship and unity, aligning with sustainable development goals (SDGs) by promoting good health, diverse skills and learning, inclusivity, and economic opportunities for sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sannanut Insorn “Cho,” a 4th-year student from the Faculty of Liberal Arts and President of the Student Organization of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, revealed that the student organization and faculty student clubs have collaborated to create an impressive event for the other 8 Rajamangala Universities of Technology. In the 37th competition, RMUTT Thanyaburi won the trophy of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The student organization supports the athletes, encouraging sportsmanship. Besides the sports competitions, there are cheerleading competitions, the RMUT Music Award 2024, RMUT Star 2024, and MISS QUEEN RMUT 2024 contests, aiming to strengthen relationships and unity through sports. The opening ceremony commenced with a marching band leading the parade and athletes from the 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology into the stadium.The ceremony began with the national flag being raised to the top by student representatives, followed by the university emblem and the royal trophy being brought into the ceremony. Dr. Sommai Pheosoi, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), delivered a report and invited the event’s presiding officer to present plaques to the competition supporters. Later, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, presiding over the ceremony, officially opened the event and took photos with the executives of all nine RMUTT campuses.
The host university’s athletes raised the sports and university flags. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Madao Sulaong, a senior athlete, led the athletes in taking the oath, while Mr. Sutthi Thuti, a representative of the judges, took the oath of fairness. Mr. Thawatchai Hemmad, the first torchbearer athlete, ran into the field and passed the torch to Sgt. Kakaporn Tangsriwong, the second torchbearer athlete, who lit the main torch. The marching band led the athletes out of the field. The opening ceremony also featured a performance entitled “Connecting RMUTT with Harmony…Unifying with Sports” by the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts.
The event mascot, named “Nong Bua,” was designed by Ms. Waritsara Phutthasri, a student at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Inspired by the lotus flower, which is RMUTT’s symbolic flower, it was designed to be a half-human, half-robot figure, representing modern technology and cuteness.
The official logo for the event, designed by Mr. Teerapat Klinkeet, was inspired by the curved design of the “Golden Lotus,” a significant sculpture symbol of RMUTT. The logo incorporates three elements: wings symbolizing innovation, ears of rice symbolizing the meaning of “Thanya” (abundance), and seeds representing growth and progress in all 9 Rajamangala University of Technology campuses. The flame symbolizes the “RMUTT Game,” representing power and determination, akin to a torch that illuminates the light of hope and future for this sports competition. For RMUTT, the letters are designed in a modern style, resembling steps that symbolize progress and readiness to lead the nine Rajamangala University of Technology campuses to the 38th Rajamangala University of Technology of Thailand Games. The slogan for the competition, “Connecting Rajamangala with Friendship, Uniting with Sports,” was penned by Assistant Professor Sophon Sathonsamritphon and Assistant Professor Dr. Aranya Saan Sa. Additionally, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation serves as the chair for presenting the policy of establishing the Student Wellness Club under the U-LIVE by MHESI network across higher education institutions nationwide. This initiative aims to provide educational and career guidance, counseling, mental health care, and activities that promote student engagement, ensuring students lead happy and quality lives. The pilot project will start at RMUTT Thanyaburi and expand to RMUTT branches nationwide with signage to mark their stance on fostering sustainable wellness. Ms. Supamas Issaraphakdee, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, mentioned that establishing the Student Wellness Club is a Quick Win activity deemed essential and urgent, aiming to provide comprehensive student care. With a screening system to detect students under stress and promoting health opportunities centered on learners, the main policy is ‘Study Well, Be Happy, Earn an Income.’ This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of promoting mental health and well-being. The Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT), Rajamangala University of Technology Presidents Council (RMUTTPC), the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Thailand (APHEIT), and other bodies collaboratively drive these activities. The Minister also stated that the key objective of establishing the Student Wellness Club is to offer comprehensive mental health support for students at all higher education institutions, enhance counseling services, provide educational and career guidance efficiently, and ensure students can overcome obstacles properly to lead a normal, healthy life. This initiative aims to produce quality youth who will become essential assets to the country. The target includes 154 higher education institutions under the ministry’s jurisdiction, covering over 2,500 students, and staff members from higher education institutions who participated. Additionally, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation visited the activity booths to view various operations related to students of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT). Associate Professor Dr. Sommai Phiwa-Soat, the President of RMUTT, reported on the operations along with the team from the Career and Alumni Relations Department, Division of Student Development, RMUTT. Importantly, RMUTT has specially opened the space at the Office of Educational Services and Information Technology to promote mental health and well-being. This facility is designed for easy access, privacy, and connectivity to multiple areas within the university and is preparing to expand to accommodate further services in the future.”
