RMUTT Thanyaburi Transforms Ideas into the Market, Launches Business Matching Platform to Drive Economy with Innovation
24/03/2025Fourth-year students from the Department of Design Arts and Technology, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) collaborated to organize a thesis exhibition to showcase their work to the public, gaining real experience in displaying their design works. The event gathered works from four fields: communication design, interior design, product design, and contemporary design innovation. It was held at Union Mall, CoEvent Studio Zone in Bangkok. One of the highlighted and highly praised works was a “bag made from woven bamboo fiber,” flawlessly combining the concept of sustainability with modern design.
Mr. Pongsakorn Paryatklang, or “Korn,” a fourth-year product design student at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and the creator of the bamboo fiber bag, discussed the design concept: “I wanted to create a bag that is not only beautiful and practical but also environmentally friendly and reflective of the unique qualities of natural materials like bamboo.” This work was inspired by the lifestyle of the new generation who values sustainability, hence the choice of using woven bamboo fiber as the main material, complete with bamboo handles that enhance the sense of craftsmanship and nature. The bag features a simple, modern design suitable for various uses.
“The bamboo fiber bags were designed in three types to cater to diverse uses: a Bag for Personal Items, compact and ideal for carrying daily necessities; a Laptop Bag with special compartments to protect against impact and organize accessories; and a Duffle Bag, a large cylindrical bag suitable for short trips or sports activities. All are made from bamboo fiber fabric, offering light weight, durability, scratch resistance, shape retention, and environmental friendliness,” the creator explained in detail.
Mr. Nutthapol Sorthananusak, a lecturer in the Product Design Department at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, RMUTT Thanyaburi, as an advisor, added to the concept of art in this work: “Good art design must consider the harmony between materials and parts to create balance and coherence.” The design of the bamboo fiber bag requires selecting materials and components that harmonize, including woven bamboo fiber fabric, bamboo handles, zippers, and straps that enhance usability. At the same time, the challenge of creating this work lies in designing details that clearly express the uniqueness of bamboo. It involves developing sewing and assembly techniques for strength and practical daily use.
In terms of sustainability, this work aligns with several sustainable development goals, including sustainable production and consumption through the use of natural materials and the reduction of fashion industry waste. It addresses climate change by reducing plastic and synthetic fiber usage and promotes economic growth and meaningful employment by supporting creative industries and encouraging responsible resource use. This exhibition hopes to inspire young designers to focus more on earth-friendly design and sustainable development.
