RMUTT Students Awarded First Prize in Web Design, Short Film, and Computer Programming Competition
11/01/2015Recently, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) hosted Freshy Night 2014, an event that aimed to select student representatives (Freshy Bog & Girl 2014) for leading university-wide extracurricular activities in the 2015 academic year. The event’s theme was about “sharing” – how eac
h faculty contributes to society – and the students from each of the 10 academic faculties were to create and wear a costume that represented the theme.
The Science and Technology Faculty students received the loudest applause at the event, with the costumes that conveyed the idea of “save the planet” through recycling. Represented on stage by two models, Napat Pattanapanij and Prommet Pinijkarn, the costumes were made from used newspapers and discarded objects from daily life.
“Initially, we had so many ideas and opinions, but one thing that we had in common was our definition of ‘share’, which meant giving before receiving. That’s how we came up with our concept for the costumes,” said Kirati Kirati-opaswadi, third-year computer technology student and faculty representative.
“These two costumes were created with easy-to-find, inexpensive objects. We wanted to make a point about how today society is dominated by conspicuous consumption. Many people don’t see the value of small, simple objects, which have so much beauty and meaning in themselves. We also wanted to get across the idea of positive perspectives, which will enable people to see both the value and beauty in themselves, then they can share with others. Society will then move toward a more positive direction,” he said.
On the practical side, the two costumes were light-weighted and fluttered gently in the air as the models moved their bodies. “We colored it in silver and left a few areas in original prints. Although the two costumes were low in material value, they had high emotional value, because they were made from everyone’s contribution, commitment, and solidarity,” he said, adding that the team spent 12 days, from developing the idea to finishing the final product.
