“NEXT SHOT” Joins film producers to the creative economy

Stepping further for Thai Film Industries, Next Shot 1stBangkok International Student Film Festival hosted by Bangkok University under the sponsor of Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry Of Culture, Thailand who is mainly promotes film industries to creative economy is held firstly in Thailand.

This festival activity will be conducted on July 13-18, 2010, presenting the collection of 155 long and short films from 15 countries and short story from 11 educational institutes. They are such as Bangkok University, Dhurakij Pandit, Mahasarakham University, Naresuan University, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, Rangsit University, Srinakharinwirot University, Thammasat University and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.

This film festival is not only the forum for displaying the students’ work, but it is also the place that students including people who participated in could exchange their opinions. Herewith, there was an invitation of film producers from Korea to talk about techniques how to make beautiful pictures in movies which is playing an important part of export production film. Moreover, this film festival could help educational institutes to improve thier Thai education courses in order to respond the need along with currently moving world.

Mr. Settha Wirathammanon, Teacher at Film Department, Bangkok University and Head of the mentioned project, mentioned that “the course of study in field of Film had been improved after this study appeared in last 4 years. This development is different from last 20 years that it focused on only producing movies but not distributing. However, now the faculty is developing the course of study covering the objectives of production, publication and distribution and respond to the market needs. Here, at the present time, there are 3 fields of studies: firstly, Film Production and Film Direction, secondly, Film Management focusing on managing in film industry, and thirdly Film Management focusing on film analysis and animadversion.

He also mentioned additionally that “teaching currently in this field is during the period of transforming to new technology of film production, meaning that transferring from original film to film digitals. As the result, it leads to have many educational institutes, bringing much tools and equipment from private sectors. One of examples is the machine from Kodak. It can help students and users select the mode of producing the film and calculate the cost of production easily. After students graduate, there will be also an opening the forum for film producers in order to select these graduated students to their film industry. Therefore, the International Student Film Festival conducted in this time will be the guidance points for and link students in these fields of study coming into the film industry”.
