18/04/2022Grand Opening Ceremony of the 14th “Chang U-CHAMPION CUP 2022”

Prof. Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), presided over the opening of the 14th CHANG U-CHAMPION CUP football competition in 2022. The event was also attended by Mr. Akhom Samutkojorn, the competition’s manager, and Mr. Phasaworn Peedrungsri, the Relationship Development Manager from Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev). The ceremony took place at RMUTT’s football field.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art expressed that the CHANG U-CHAMPION CUP is a beneficial activity that facilitates the exchange of experiences among higher education institutions and helps develop the Thai university football league to a national level. He commended the organizing committee, supporters, and related organizations, especially ThaiBev, for their continuous support of the tournament. He hoped that the competition would foster sportsmanship, unity, and strengthen relationships among students, motivating them to engage more in sporting activities and use their free time effectively.
Mr. Akhom Samutkojorn, the head of the competition’s organizing committee, stated that the event aims to encourage Thai youth of all genders and ages in higher education to recognize the importance of sports, to use their leisure time beneficially, and to promote involvement in sports. Sixteen leading higher education institutions participated in the competition, including Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Kasetsart University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Silpakorn University, RMUTT, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, Dhurakij Pundit University, University of North Bangkok, Bangkokthonburi University, Thonburi University, Rajapruek University, Kasem Bundit University, Pathumthani University, Rattanabundit University, and Bangkok University. The games were held from April 19 to May 6, 2022.
The structure of the competition is divided into 2 branches, each consisting of 8 teams. The team that wins the mini-league in both branches receives a trophy and an educational scholarship at the end of the competition. The knockout phase takes all 16 teams from the mini-leagues and draws them into pairs. The first-placed team from each branch becomes the seeded team, and teams ranked 2-8 are drawn into pairs against them. The final is played in a single match, and the winning team will receive a trophy along with an educational scholarship. There are also individual awards, such as the Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, and a Sportsmanship Award, with the total prizes valued at over 500,000 Thai Baht. Live matches are streamed and can be followed on the collegiate football page of the CHANG U-CHAMPION CUP.
