Professor Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), stated that the “MHESI Music Festival in Honor of December 5, 2564 BE” concluded successfully. Educational institutions across the country collaborated to organize the event “MHESI Music Festival in Honor of December 5, 2564 BE: Permanently Enshrined in the Hearts of the Thai People,” featuring over 70 venues in every region of the country on December 5, with nearly every province participating. In Bangkok, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under MHESI arranged the event, with student bands from MHESI-affiliated higher education institutions taking turns to perform over a span of 15 days from December 5-19, 2564 BE. The event was divided into three segments: the first from December 5-7, 2564 BE at Paragon Park with bands from College of Music, Mahidol University, Siam University, and Silpakorn University; the second from December 8-12, 2564 BE at ICONSIAM River Park with bands from Ramkhamhaeng University, Rajabhat University Bansomdejchaopraya, Kasetsart University, Rangsit University, and Silpakorn University. The third event took place between December 13 and 19, 2021, at the forecourt of CentralWorld, featuring bands from several Thai institutions, including King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Siam University, Chitralada Technology Institute, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Secondary School, and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. The event was a grand commemoration in tribute to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, who was revered as an “Artist King” for his various artistic contributions.
The festival successfully showcased a range of performances, including international music, Thai music, and string ensembles from no less than 70 institutions. It was highly received by the public who attended in large numbers to honor the musical legacy of the King. Students, alumni, and members from different educational institutions collaborated to pay respects to the late King’s profound benevolence.
Additionally, this event served as a large gathering for the members of the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) and was an occasion that not only memorialized the King’s generosity but also provided joy and entertainment for the Thai people.
The music festival “OHEC Pays Tribute to the King” was held on December 5, 2021, under the theme “Perpetually in the Hearts of Thais.” This event was very well attended by students, educators, and the general public, marking December 5th as the last day of performances, which is also Thailand’s Father’s Day and the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX).
Dignitaries including Professor Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; Professor Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Vice Permanent Secretary; Dr. Viboon Rerksirathai, Director of the National Research Council of Thailand; and Associate Professor Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, were present. They showed their appreciation for the performances by delivering bouquets of flowers as a sign of gratitude to the musicians.
Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, through their Department of Music and Drama from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, participated with a Thai classical music ensemble. To conclude the festival, they performed seven pieces, each one reflecting profound respect and remembrance of the late King’s royal grace and contributing to the preservation and propagation of Thai cultural arts. The performances included varied traditional Thai music “Hom Rong Maharaj”, “Kak Kao Tao”, “Tao Kin Puk Boong”, Thai Dumnern Doy”, “Khmer Bodhisatta” and “Ngue Lum Luek”, revealing the country’s commitment to celebrating and remembering the artistic legacy and cultural heritage of King Rama IX.
During the final phase of the music festival MHESI in honor of December 5, 2564 (2021 in the Buddhist calendar), the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation led a team of executives on stage to sing a New Year’s blessing song to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the upcoming new year.
