RMUTT invested its 10 million THB for Student Health Fund and another 3 million THB for student’s Part-time jobs
11/09/2019A collaborative innovation among the 3 institutions, ‘PMK: Multipurpose Electric Powered Wheelchair for the disabled
Yet another collaborative innovation, ‘PMK: Multipurpose Electric Powered Wheelchair’, was a successful outcome of joining hands between 3 institutions led by Asst. Prof. Dejrit Maneetham, Head of the Mechatronics Department in RMUTT’s Faculty of Technical Education, Asst. Prof. Dr. Benjalak Muangmeesri from Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University, Colonel Asst. Prof. Dr. Arom Khunphasee, , as well as Colonel Asst. Prof. Dr. Sutee Panichkul and Mechatronics student members, in collaboration with Phramongkutklao Hospital.
Accompanied by Mr. Punnawut Aunmee, Mr. Narasak Ard-Luek, and Mr. Panunchai Wandee, Colonel Asst. Prof. Dr. Arom revealed that a number of Paraplegia patients or those who suffer from a spinal cord injury that paralyses the lower limbs. It is a result of severe disorder to the brain or so called hemiplegia that mainly affects the body movements including standing up motion, picking things up or sometimes, the condition can also affect the ability to work including those in the field of agriculture who need to trim a high tree themselves.
And thus this collaborative research team had decided to invent a Multipurpose Electric Powered Wheelchair that can help the disables stand up again and live a normal life.
Asst. Prof. Dejrit Maneetham revealed that this innovative PMK: Multipurpose Electric Powered Wheelchair for the disables was consisted of three components: hardware, control system and software. The hardware of wheelchair was composed of 2 parts including a wheel chair and its stand up frame: 4 wheels, 2 lever pistons, 1 lever and wheelchair safety belt positioning harness. Of controlling system components, Micro control relay, a switch, and two 12 Volt Batteries were consisted. Regarding to the software, C programming would be used for operating the system. Its work principle of this wheelchair were started off by seating the patient on multipurpose wheelchair and then positioning safety belt positioning harness on the patient’s trunk part and push the switch on for the wheel chair to move itself in the standing up position. The patient could control the wheel chair to move in different directions including going forward, backward, left, and right, correspondingly.
In case the patient would like to be at the normal sitting position, moving manual wheelchair close to the patient’s multipurpose wheelchair before pushing the button to make the patient seated on the manual wheelchair and let go off the position harness.
