RMUTT and HIU Students from Japan Organize Contests to Share Cultural Experiences

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natha Kuptasthien, Ph.D. Assistant to the President for International Relations at RMUTT said that RMUTT has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Hokkaido Information University (HIU), Japan to collaborate by organizing website design, short film, and computer programming contests to identify potential talent to join technical training related to website design, short film development, and computer programming to aid in solving problems. The contests were held at RMUTT and HIU, Japan, and aligns with the Office of the Higher Education Commission’s strategies to sustain student development standards, develop students according to the Thailand Qualifications Framework (TQF), and prepare students for the ASEAN community.

“Eco Lifestyle” by Mr. Anantichai Jaosiri, a student in RMUTT’s Faculty of Mass Communication Technology received first runner-up in the International Web Design Contest (iWDC). “Bighamster” by Mr. Pattawat Siricharoensap and Ms. Siritorn Yimpong, students in RMUTT’s Faculty of Mass Communication Technology received first runner-up in the International Short Films Contest (iSFC), while “Invasion Alert” by Mr. Ornapae Kongkarn, a student in RMUTT’s Faculty of Science and Technology received first runner-up in the Computer Programming Contest (iCPC).

Mr. Anantichai Jaosiri, creator of the “Eco Lifestyle” website said that once he received the theme of the contest – Butterfly Effect, he designed the eco lifestyle website to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle that can be implemented in daily life, such as unplugging appliances that are not used and turning off the water. Other behaviors that may be done daily include switching from cars to motorcycles and taking the stairs instead of the escalator. Nevertheless, the unique point of the website was that it could accommodate all equipment, was easy to understand, and contained animated graphics. “Eco Lifestyle” was the first work that Mr. Anantichai was very proud of, and it has inspired him to participate in other forums as well.

Additionally, Mr. Pattawat Siricharoensap and Ms. Siritorn Yimpong, creators of the “Bighamster” short film said that the film was three minutes long. The contest theme was ‘sharing’ which could be separated into various themes. They decided to exemplify on the spirit of Thai people by conveying selfishness through characters without dialogue, using visuals and sounds as a medium to display characters’ actions, and closing with the question ‘It’s not too late to share’ to encourage people to think further. Furthermore, both creators have attended workshops in Japan and have participated in activities with Japanese friends as well.

Mr. Ornapae Kongkarn, creator of the “Invasion Alert” application said that he applied various technologies to create an application that informed users if a thief broke into their house. The application is useful for transmitting data when a theif breaks into one’s house and informs the user about current threats so such situations may be quickly resolved, in turn reducing the rate of loss incurred and ensuring the safety of people in the house. The highlight of the application is its functionality as it can rapidly alert users and has functions that enable users to view previous activities, warnings issued, and past break-ins. Besides obtaining experience through creating the application, he felt very proud to receive the award and would like to thank Prof. Pongpul Nilpaluk for his advice in running the application.
