21/10/2010RMUTT pleased to solve the problem of nearby alcohol shops
Assoc. Prof. Sujira Khojitmata, an assistant to the university’s president (RMUTT), spoke about the visit to the university by Deputy Education Minister Chaiyot Jiramethakorn, “we are very pleased to have visitors from the Ministry of Education because they can then find out first hand the critical problems related to alcohol, so that the Ministry of Education can then set-up measures to deal with those who break the rules with regard to alcohol. Currently, the problem of alcohol shops opening near the university are becoming more problematic. Theses shops have not followed the Act of Alcohol 2008.”
“As for RMUTT, we will set-up a committee of social organizations by coordinating with land officers. The reason for this is that the nearby apartment owners have used their own buildings for pubs and bars. We believe the land officers can inform them of the proper regulations in this regard. Moreover, our committee will work with the committees of social organizations of Pathum Thani province,” Assoc. Prof. Sujira says.
Assoc. Prof. Sujira continues…, “this on-going campaign related to the alcohol shop problem and prevention in the areas near the university is due to the several factors, that being the increase in new apartment and commercial building construction – 84 finished apartments, 17 apartments under construction and 177 commercial buildings. Moreover, there are also 14,000 RMUTT students not including the 28,000 people who are non-RMUTT students, working people and other part-times university students that live near the university. This could lead those who sell alcohol to see the importance of this group as a target for financial gain. To solve this problem, RMUTT can, through prevention, develop and establish a university environment similar to a department store that consists of many conveniences to keep the students on the university, rather than going outside for these needs. This last idea was offered by Assoc. Prof. Numyoot Songthanapitak, RMUTT President”
