RMUTT Establishes a Science and Technology Learning Center in the Heart of the City

RMUTT and the National Science Museum (NSM) have partnered to establish a science and technology learning center in Bangsue Junction Shopping Center in Chatuchak, Bangkok as the country’s permanent platform for learning about science and technology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prasert Pinprathomrat, RMUTT President asserted that as RMUTT is a university that promotes innovation, science, and technology, it aims to develop more manpower in the areas of science and technology to support the overall manpower level in Thailand. The Bangsue Junction Shopping Center has offered 1,000 square meters of space on the first floor to house the Innovation & Knowledge Center office as a collaborative space to coordinate with SMEs. In three months, another 2,000 square meters of space will be home to an Innovation & Knowledge Center office as well, but will serve as an incubator, learning space, offer consulting services, and coordinate with SMEs, students, and alumni.

Furthermore, RMUTT, in partnership with The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) and SME Development Bank, have launched an incubator for entrepreneurs in start-up SMEs as part of the SMEs (Turnaround) project and have organized an SME E-commerce seminar for people interested in the university’s research services, to better integrate and connect the production and education sectors.

“RMUTT has been tasked by the private sector to conduct research and the private sector will subsequently add value to ensure readiness for production, in order to encourage more innovation in the future” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prasert Pinprathomrat, RMUTT President.

Moreover, Dr. Aphiya Hathaitham, Deputy Director of the National Science Museum Thailand (NSM) added that the National Science Museum is a state-owned enterprise that operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology. It was officially opened in 2000 and currently has three museums: 1. Science Museum, 2. Natural History Museum, and 3. Information Technology Museum, which are all located in Klong 5, Thanyaburi, Pathum Thani province.

As the commute may be inconvenient for those that reside in the city, the National Science Museum Thailand (NSM) views that having a learning center in the city is a way to offer services and make it more convenient for people in Bangkok and greater Bangkok metropolitan area.

The space on the first floor of the Bangsue Junction Shopping Center currently displays two exhibitions – “An Era where Humans Rule the World”, an exhibition about human behaviors, and “Sustainable Tourism”, which aims to encourage and support sustainable tourism in Thailand.

There is also a “Maker Space”, which allows children and young adults to use their imagination and develop their skills in order to become an innovator. They will be able to create innovations from their imagination and solve various problems, which is a source of scientific and technological knowledge that is easily accessible and results in sustainable development.

Khun Sopha Siramaneerat, President of DD Mall Co., Ltd., and Manager of the Bangsue Junction Shopping Center said that she realized the importance of learning about science and technology, and decided to offer this space to the National Science Museum (NSM) to build a learning center to stimulate creative thinking and innovation for the country.

The Innovation & Knowledge Center is open daily from Monday to Friday, 10.00 – 17.00, and Saturday and Sunday, 10.00 – 19.00. It is located in Bangsue Junction Shopping Center, Chatuchak, Bangkok.
