Chulalongkorn University drew with Thammasat University 1-1 in the Chang U-Champion Cup University Football Match.

Chula drawn against Thammasat to open their play in 14th Chang U-CHAMPION CUP 2022 for the total prize pool of 500,000 THB at Football Stadium of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT)
The previous champion Chulalonkorn University was held to an entertaining 1-1 draw as its longtime rival Thammasat University scored in the second half.
The 14th “Chang U-CHAMPION CUP 2022” is a Thailand’s Higher Education Football Tournament that has a prize pool of 500,000 THB. The 16 institution teams affiliated to Higher Education competing at the tournament were divided into two groups- Group A and B – for the first phase. The top teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stages.
On February 21st, 2022, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sommai Pivsa-Art, President of RMUTT, presided over the official opening ceremony of the 14th “Chang U-CHAMPION CUP 2022” at RMUTT Football Stadium together with Ajarn Arkom Samutkojorn, Tournament Director, Mr. Pasaworn Petarangsi, Manager of Relationship Development of Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, and distinguished guests witnessed a spectacular football match between Chulalongkorn University a.k.a. “Look Phra Keaw” and Thammasat University a.k.a “Look Phra Dome”
The match started off with the ex-champion attacking time and time again but ended with nothing until in the 14th minute of the first half, Thammasat got its first chance from Kritipoj Konkla with his hard-hit long shot from the outside of the box. In the 21th minute, Chula finally got their break-through from a free-kick of Natthanin Thobaansong slightly on the left side of the outside box who smashed the ball with pace and accuracy that hit the inside post before Preecha Petchthong got his final tap-in. Chula led 1-0.
After going behind, Thammasat opened up their play attacking time and time again until they got their second chance after 2 minutes of injury time before the half-time break from Chukid Wannaprapa who shot the ball just wide of the far post. Thammasat was still trailing before the break 1-0.
Right after the half-time break there were nothing to lose for Thammasat, the red and yellow strip team relentlessly attacked firing all their cylinders and almost got their first goal from Kritsanpon Booncharee who almost managed to chip the ball over the Chula’ keeper but he was able to block it out.
Having better possessions but without a goal, TU kept pushing forward but still missed their goals in the final third until in the 88th minute before extra-time, Wutthichai Nuanloy was able to head flying toward the far corner of the goal and drew level after an exquisite left-cross from this team-mate even Ismana Mana got his touch on the ball but not enough to stop the goal. TU got their equalizer 1-1.
Without next goal, the match ended with both TU and the recent champion CU earning their one point for a group-stage draw. After the match the number 7 midfielder from Chulakorn University, Mr. Guntinun Chanmutri got his fair play award.
On April 25th, 2022, the Chang U-CHAMPION CUP 2022 fixture schedule will see 8 matches including Group A at 2.00 pm, Kasembundit Football Stadium, Silapakorn University vs Thurakitbundit Unversity, and at 4.00 pm, Kasembundit University vs Rattanabundit University. At Krungthep Football Stadium, 2.00 pm Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi will meet against Krungthep Thonburi University and at 4.00 pm Krungthep University vs Rajapruek University. While in Group B, at 2.00 pm. Chulalongkorn Football Stadium, Pathum Thani University vs Kasetsart University and at 4.00 pm, Chulalongkorn University will face North Bangkok University. At King Monkut’s University Football Stadium, RMUTR will meet Thonburi University and at 4 pm. King Monkut’s University will have to face a crunch match with Thammasat University.
