The 44th Thai University Games “Suranaree Games” held at Suranaree University of Technology in Nakornratchasima province has just ended. Lookpra Palabodee team from the Institute of Physical Education (IPE) won first place for the third time, receiving 67 gold medals, 61 silver medals, and 54 bronze medals. Second place went to Chulalongkorn University, whom received 50 gold medals, 46 silver medals, and 61 bronze medals.
Previous first runner ups, Sripatum University, received a gold medal, beating previous champions Rattanathibet University by 3-2 set.
In addition, Mr. Dan Hetrakul, Director of Daily News now serves as Head of Athletes and Manager of the Tennis team. Bangkokthonburi University (BTU). BTU won fourth place, receiving 35 gold medals, 20 silver medals, and 21 bronze medals. BTU still focuses on supporting national athletes to study and develop their full potential as well as encourage Thai athletes to build a reputation for the university and Thai national team.
Moreover, Dr. Chanchai Chairoungruang, President of BTU , together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Bangorn Benjatikul have organized a ceremony to award athletes that received a gold medal with THB 100,000. Athletes that won silver and bronze medals in the singles category received THB 10,000. Teams received THB 20,000. Furthermore, outstanding athletes received THB 50,000, breaking the previous record of THB 30,000 prize money. In sum, the total amount awarded was THB 4,350,000.
The next host for the 45th Thai University Games to be held during January 22nd – 31st, 2018 will be RMUTT. This will be the first time that the Thai University Games will be hosted by RMUTT and Srinakharinwirot University Onglarak campus, in cooperation with Thammasat University Rangsit campus. The Thai University Games will be held at both RMUTT and Thammasat University Rangsit campus. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prasert Pinprathomrat, RMUTT President said that the budget for the Thai University Games is approximately THB 50 million.
In other news, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep (RMUTK) hosted the 33rd UTK Games in February 2017. Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) won first place, receiving 25 gold medals and the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn trophy. Next in line to host the UTK Games is Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, in which Dr. Sathit Putthachaiyong, President of RMUTK has already passed the competition flag to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Namyutt Songthanapitak, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna.
Medical students from the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University have invited the public to join The Chiang Mai to Siriraj “1,500,000 Steps” charity run. The charity run was led by 19 Siriraj medical students and 30 supporting teams between March 11th – 17th, 2017. The run will start from McCormick Hospital in Chiangmai province to Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, covering a total distance of 750 KM. This run is reminiscent of the path Prince Mahidol, Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand, took when he treated patients at McCormick Hospital. The run will continue the Royal aspirations of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, while also showing loyalty to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.
The objective of the The Chiang Mai to Siriraj “1,500,000 Steps” charity run was to raise funds for the construction of the 84th Anniversary Navamindrabopitr Building, the last name granted by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, to care for underprivileged patients at Siriraj Hospital. The charity run has already exceeded its target. However, there is still a budget deficit of THB 3,000 million to aid construction of the building, with THB 1,000 million budget allocated to construction of the building and THB 2,000 million allocated to medical equipment.
