His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously bestowed Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to represent him in laying the foundation stone for the center of degree education at the College of Technology and Vocational Education, 39 Moo 1, Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road, Khlong Hok Subdistrict, Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province (currently known as Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi) on Tuesday, June 7, 1988, which was an auspicious occasion that brought prosperity and progress to the university. On this occasion, His Majesty planted a lotus tree at the sculpture area, the symbol of the university (currently known as Anan Rangsan Square).
This is the greatest kindness that His Majesty has bestowed upon the lecturers, civil servants, and students of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. With a sense of gratitude, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi has designated the lotus tree as the auspicious tree of the university.
Flowers in the early part of the lotus plant have the scientific name Gustavia gracillima Miers, family LECYTHIDACEAE. It is a shrub 1.5-7 meters tall. The leaves are alternate, lanceolate with a pointed tip, serrated edges, and a tapering base. The flowers are pink and grow in the leaf axils near the end of the branch. There are 8-9 petals, the petals are rather thick. The fruit is shaped like a spinning top with a long stem. Students can experience its beauty at the Anantrangsan area in front of the university auditorium. The lotus plant grows in the winter.
