RMUTT invents ‘Anti-bacteria, Anti-Water-Droplet, Color-Changing, and Glow-in-the-dark’ Trekking Hat

Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Textile Innovation Engineering, Rajamangala University of Technology (RMUTT) invented a customized trekking hat with its 4 distinctive textile properties including anti-bacteria, anti-water-droplet, color-changing to monitor surface temperature, and glow-in-the-dark’. Trekking hat is an item that can protect user from the sun, reduce glare on bright days, and protect from getting wet during a rainy day but from a fashionist perspective, trekking hat can also symbolize user’s active or adventure life styles including trekking , jungle camping, etc. The inventors of this customized made trekking hat include 4 third-year-students: Mr. Pattarapon Watchraprapawadee, Mr. Kittikame Boonkum, Mr. Sarawut Sriprasert, and Mr. Afundy Kahotong  from the Department of Engineering and their advisors, Dr. Nareerut Jariyapunya and Assistant Professor Sunee Hathaiwaseewong. Mr. Pattarapon, one of the students revealed how his team got the idea of inventing the trekking hat, “During Textile Product course, we were brainstorming on what we should be doing and right away we were interested in the trekking hat. After we finished conducting an initial study on the hat, we decided to consult with our advisors for their recommendations. The team reached the agreement that research on the trekking hat will be based on 4 distinctive textile properties including anti-bacterial function to neutralize many different unwanted scents, water-repellent to anti-water droplets, color-changing to monitor surface temperature, and to illuminate trekking hat in the dark with phosphorescence technology. Dr. Nareerut Jariyapunya further added, “This particular customized glow-in-the dark innovative trekking hat with color-changing function had been developed to assist, protect, and indicate temperature of the user using the thermochomic technology while illumination of the hat is responsible by Phosphorescence coating that assists the hat emitting the light. In addition, this particular innovation obtains high water-repellent properties, resilient to dirt matters, with antibacterial function. Regarding its production cost, its price will higher than the normal trekking hat approximately 70-80 Baht depending on total production quantity.” Fortunately, inventors of the “Trekking hat”, were presented with three prestigious awards including ‘RMUTT Elevate Innovation & Invention Award’, ‘The 11th Innovation Awards 2022’, and the 10th RMUTT Young Talent Inventor Awards 2022.
