Students from the Creative Crafts Technology program, Faculty of Home Economics Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), went home with four medals from The Pattaya Hospitality Art Competition 2014. The competition, which aimed to search for the best service providers in the art of hospitality, was part of the 8th Pattaya Food & Hoteliers Expo 2014, which took place at Royal Orchid Hotel.

The four competition categories included: culinary art, flower arranging art, mixology, and spa. Participants came from local and international institutions all over the world. Students from RMUTT participated in both single and team categories.

Winner of the silver medal in the “Florists Competition Bridal Bouquet”, Kamjon Roengsamut, said that his final piece, entitled “Pure White Bridal”, symbolized the bride’s pure love. He used white orchid petals and some wires to create a protea flower, then added finishing touches with bird feathers, silver threads, pearls, and gold wires. “I chose protea because it has a unique form,” he says, adding that he was very happy to receive the medal from this large-scale international competition. “I would like to say thank you to Ajarn Winai Tarawej, who taught me all these skills,” he said.

First runner-up, silver medal in the “Florists Competition Bridal Bouquet” created a bouquet to symbolize never-ending love. “I used Thai flowers, mainly Globe Amaranth, to create a sweet, contemporary style bouquet. The basic structure is a heart shape, and I decorated it with various materials, such as beads, threads, ribbons, and dry twigs,” he said, adding that he was very happy to participate in the event and also would like to say thank you to Ajarn Winai Tarawej who helped prepare him for the competition.

For the team competition, the two teams from RMUTT were both awarded bronze medals. The first team competed in the “Florist Competition” category. “We created a flower lamp that looked similar to a grape vine chandelier, made from orchids. The main color was purple. To enhance depth, we used woven twigs,” said a representative from the team, which consisted of fourth-year students Jiranan Krokantok and Soipetch Ouyporn.

Another bronze medal was from the “Freestyle Fruit and Vegetable Carving Showpiece” category. The team consisted of second-year students Rachen Namab and Kritsana Boonpun. “We carved floral patterns on a watermelon, papaya, and cantaloupe, and carved a peacock on a pumpkin,” said the team representative, adding that they felt proud to receive the award. The team members were trained by Ajarn Chulaporn Srimuangmai.
