Nowadays there are many activities to the global warming reduction promotion. It leads to have a lot of campaigns to save energy usage and to exploit the resources efficiently and friendly to the environment. For example, reusing and recycling the already used things or using things made from the nature in order to help reduce the present environmental problems.
Nowadays, it is acknowledged about there are many types of equipments and tools made from plastic leading to create many problems but the number of plastic usage never decreases. However, it is needed to accept that plastics are necessary to human life unavoidably.
Therefore, things can be done is to reduce the plastic usage and use only when it is necessary. In other ways, the reduction of plastics at the product process, no matter what it is production, usage and degradation. Fortunately, this way of reducing the problem is founded successfully.
Mrs. Weeraporn Piew Sa-Ad, Faculty of Engineering, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi is an inventor of biodegradable plastics. Moreover, this work could also win the award from Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition 2010(KIWIE2010), Korea as well. This work names Electronic Parts Made from Environmental Friendly Plastics.
Who will believe that sugarcane, cassava and maize can be the plastics. More and more important, these plastics are used to produce electronic and electrical parts which now the demand of them continues increasing rapidly.
Mrs. Weeraporn also mentioned that electronic and electrical industries are one of many industries that use plastics as their part of production. These plastics names engineering plastics and there are such as Acylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) or Polycarbonate (PC). These after are used, they will be released to the environment and they need 450 years to be degraded. Finally, they will cause global warming.
Therefore, she started researching and using the biodegradable plastics in stead of normal plastics. It is said that biodegradable plastics made from natural biomass such as cassava, sugarcane and maize which are fermented and polymerized. After these processes, plastic compound will be obtained, and it can be transformed to be the desirable products. A long with the research with focused lens of projector, it is found that, after these biodegradable products are used and release to the environment, they can be degraded by microorganism within a few weeks. Moreover, they will release Co2 and water which can be the nutrients for plant. In the degrade process, carbon dioxide will not be released to the environment. This can benefit the agricultural workers as well.
This successfulness can help conserve the environment sustainably. At the present, there are many researchers trying creating many new innovational invention to help solving the environmental problem, however, the biggest problem is that human beings still ignore to diminish it. If there is no any corporation from any people hand, it is difficult to see the beautiful world.
